We often say that the hour of death cannot be forecast. When we say this, we imagine this hour would be in the distant future. We never thought we would be thinking about Tessa as a memory. It all came too soon.
All of us have different memories of Tessa; those that worked with her at the homeless shelter have been recent.
We are so privileged to have worked with such an amazing, strong woman, who had such deep care & love for her team members and our clients. Tessa taught us strong values and the importance of working together tightly as a team, tolerance towards one another, generosity and tolerance towards one another’s weaknesses. Her insight into those accessing our service was admirable and she made everyone feel special.
Her courage, determination and sense of humor is something we will always carry with us, and hope that we can display those same characteristics, especially in difficult times. She even came to help out while undergoing treatment for cancer.
She had the most amazing courageous strength and tenacity that every single person who ever came into contact with her could feel while in her presence. She went through so much in the past 2 years things that would have broken a lot of people but not Tessa.
Till we meet again; beautiful Soul Rest in Peace.
Thanks to all of you who contributed to her funeral.
Our annual Sleep-Out to raise funds and awareness of the homeless in Bromley took place on Friday 6 November individually this year due to the Covid-19 virus. Some had to delay their sleep-out so the results are not yet available. Thank you to all who took part - and those who sponsored them!
Thank you for your support for the Bromley Homeless Shelter's work. You may have been wondering what will happen this year. We are unsure whether we are able to run a night shelter this winter due to Coronavirus.
As an alternative to the Shelter, homeless people may be placed in temporary accommodation, such as hostels and hotels, working closely with the London Borough of Bromley and other charitable organisations. In this case, we would be providing meals and moral support to these people in addition to our normal advice service, so we will still need volunteers for this, especially if you have a car for transport.
We are opening registration so we can be responsive to the needs of those we help. If you wish to volunteer, please carefully consider the risks to yourself before registering.
Please see our "Want to Help/ winter season volunteer" page to register
Our mission at the Bromley Homeless Shelter is to give homeless people and those at risk of homelessness, advice and support. In addition, during the winter months we give the homeless a warm safe place to sleep and a hot meal.
